Motorcycles Are Loud!

30 Aug

Yeah I bet you are wondering what is up with the title?

Ok well I asked my mom to say something random and so she said:

“ummmm. Motorcycles are loud”

So I said:

“Ok that will be my post title!”

So now I will talk about my experiences with a loud motorcycles.

So the other night I was sleeping and I wake up at 2 in the hearing the sound of a motorcycle gang. I was cranky at the time so I shouted out the window and went to bed pretending nothing ever happened! 😀

Want to know what else is loud?

Those big microphones at public places like the train or the ferry boat. A ferry boat is just a boat that goes from once place back and forth. Just google it. If you don’t know what a train is then that is just sad. *rolls eyes*

The microphones are always like:

“Attention. Do not hang out of the door” or something obvious like that. Which I am thinking. Come on we aren’t that stupid!

Well this is the end of the post just because I ran out of things to say! See you guys on Wednesday! (if you haven’t figured it out I post on Wednesdays and Sundays!)

Motorcycles are loud only after the owner violates federal law and installs an exhaust system that’s not noise certified by the EPA, or tampers with the original exhaust.

All motorcycles made after 1982 must include in the owner’s manual the following information under the title, Tampering with Noise Control System Prohibited.

Federal law prohibits the following acts or the causing thereof; (1) the removal or rendering inoperative by any person other than for purposes of maintenance, repairs, of replacement of any device or element of design incorporated into any new vehicle for the purpose of noise control prior to its sale or delivery to the ultimate purchaser or while it is in use, or (2) the use of the vehicle after such device or element of design has been removed or rendered inoperative by any person.

Among those acts presumed to constitute tampering are the acts listed below:

removing or puncturing the muffler, baffles, header pipes, screen type spark arrester (if equipped) or any other component which conducts exhaust gases; replacing the exhaust system or muffler with a system or muffler not marked with the same model specific code as the code listed on the Motorcycle Noise Emission Control Information label, and certified to appropriate EPA noise standards; removing or puncturing the air cleaner case, air cleaner cover, baffles, or any other component which conducts intake air.

There’s more information on this on the Noiseoff website.

Denver and Green Bay have been using EPA label based ordinances to successfully curtail the operation of loud bikes. Boston and East Greenwich, R.I., more recently enacted similar ordinances. And New York City is considering such an ordinance.
